Assistant Controller

JOB SUMMARY

We are hiring an Assistant Controller who will provide high-level support to our firm's Controller as they manage a company's accounting and financial activities. Duties include producing financial summary statements, integrating accounting processes for acquired businesses, and driving process improvements. This is an exceptional opportunity to join a quickly growing team in support of our private equity backed firm.

This position is remotely based in U.S.

MAJOR AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

  • Coordinates with and prepares reports for CFO and upper management.
  • Prepares periodic financial statements in conformity with generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Uses accounting software to maintain records and prepare reports. Oversees chart of accounts, including usage and organization.
  • Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable and payroll accounting processes.
  • Lead monthly completion of complex accounting procedures for accounting estimates and accrued expenses.
  • Identify solutions to discrepancies in financial records.
  • Assists with preparations for audits and tax returns.
  • Lead accounting staff to reconcile accounting inaccuracies or imbalances.
  • Ensures compliance with and prepare reports according to applicable state and local government requirements.
  • Identify, recommend, and lead in implementing improvements in accounting and finance processes and improvements to internal controls and policies.
  • Apply applicable accounting guidance to address non-routine transactions and lead accounting staff with correct general ledger account usage. Prepare supporting documentation and memorandum to record accounting judgments and conclusions.
  • Contributes to team efforts by accomplishing related tasks as needed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field
  • Eight (8) or more years of experience in accounting within corporate environment
  • Strong supervisory and management skills
  • Strong computer skills and knowledge of accounting software programs (NetSuite preferred)
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Highly skilled in math, accounting, and financial processes
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Detail oriented and highly organized
  • Skilled in time management and task prioritization
  • Excellent critical thinking skills
  • Solid understanding of GAAP and applicable guidance

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • MBA or Master's degree in accounting, finance, or related field
  • CPA or CMA strongly preferred
  • Experience in a professional services or high-growth start-up environment preferred
